The Makalu Sherpani Pass Trek is one of Nepal’s most adventurous and rewarding high-altitude journeys, taking trekkers deep into the remote Makalu Barun National Park. This trek leads to Makalu Base Camp (4,870m) and traverses the scenic Sherpani Pass (5,020m), offering a true off-the-beaten-path Himalayan experience.
Along the route, trekkers are treated to spectacular panoramic views of Mt. Makalu (8,485m)—the world’s fifth-highest peak—alongside towering giants like Lhotse (8,516m), Kanchenjunga (8,586m), and Everest (8,848m) from select vantage points. The trail winds through pristine forests, rhododendron and bamboo groves, alpine meadows, and high-altitude landscapes rich in biodiversity, providing both natural beauty and a sense of serene isolation.
The Makalu Sherpani Pass Trek is physically demanding and best suited for trekkers with a moderate to high fitness level, as the journey involves long trekking days, steep ascents, and variable terrain. Gradual acclimatization ensures safety and minimizes the risk of altitude sickness. Along the trek, you’ll encounter traditional Sherpa and Rai villages, offering unique cultural experiences and insights into Himalayan life.
